Artist Biography
Diane Hemingway is an artist whose practice is deeply rooted in nature. She uses photography, writing, and recorded prose to explore the spiritual, emotional, and physical connections between the natural world and the stories we carry. Weaving through life and loss, the humble and the magical, the past and the present, her work is a love letter to places, memories, dreams, and family.
Diane received her MFA from Maine Media College in Rockport, Maine. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, with shows at institutions including the Griffin Museum of Photography, A Smith Gallery, Panopticon Gallery, PhotoPlace Gallery, the SE Center for Photography, the Atlanta Photography Group, Cove Street Arts, and Gallery 263.
She is the author of two monographs—The Fire in My Throat (2021) and The Wild Cosmos (2020), a multimedia publication combining image, text, and audio. In 2023, Hemingway reimagined The Wild Cosmos as her first handmade artist book, created in memory of her brother. Her photographs have also been included in curated editions of NORDphotography, selected by Cig Harvey.
The natural world continues to shape her practice, whether at home in Maine or traveling the country in a van.
